4. 4. (a) Translate the following into English: 10

भारत एक महान देश है| इसका अतीत बहुत ही शानदार रहा है| विदेशी आक्रमणकारियो ने इस देश को लूटने का प्रयास किया| इसकी संस्कृति तथा इसके ज्ञान–विज्ञान को मिटाने का प्रयास किया| परन्तु  देशप्रेमियो के बलिदान और  बहादुरी के कारण वे सफल नहीं हुए| आज भी देश में किसी चीज की कमी नहीं है| यदि दिन दूनी रात चौगुनी बढ़ती हुई जनसंख्या पर नियंत्रण हो जाए तो देश फिर समृद्र हो जायेगा| पर्यावरण प्रदूषण देश की एक बङी समस्या है| इस ओर प्रत्येक देशप्रेमी नागरिक को जाग्ररुक होने की आवश्यकता है| आपसी भाईचारा और  मेल–जोल की भावना को सदैव बढ़वा देने को आवश्यकता है| भारत एक महान देश था, आज भी है  और सदैव रहेगा |

The first thing a scholar should bear in mind is that a book ought not to be read for mere amusement. Half educated persons, read for amusement, and are not to be blamed for it. They are incapable of appreciating the deeper qualitie that belong to a really great literature. But a young man, who has passed through a university training, should discipline himself at an early stage, never to real for mere amusement.
